Addressing your comments and ideas for where next:

Parents were not always aware of who the governing body are, what they do and what is their strategic vision.

  • On our website in Community there is a governor’s page (insert link) that lists the governors names, roles and attendance.
  • The Governors 5-year strategic Plan is available to view on our website. (insert link)
  • The Governors will publish a yearly newsletter for parents which will outline their roles and contributions to the school.

A small minority of parents were concerned that they did not receive valuable information on their child’s progress

  • We meet the statutory requirements in informing parents about the children’s progress through Parent Consultation Evenings in the autumn and spring terms and an end of year report in the summer term. In addition, we hold a further consultation for our Foundation Stage parents in the summer term and all parents are invited to an open afternoon.
  • Teachers and the Headteacher are always willing to meet with parents if they have a concern over their children’s progress. Appointments can be made if required.
  • Many parents will talk to teachers at the end of the school day. We do acknowledge that some parents are busy or working. We suggest that this is when you should book an appointment if you wish to discuss your child’s progress.
  • Teachers will contact you if they have concerns regarding progress and suggest ways that we can work together to support your child.

A small minority of parents do not feel involved in their child’s education or feel the school could do more to help them support their child.

  • Next term we will run parent workshops on supporting learning at home in English and Mathematics.
  • Our curriculum pages on our website include tips for parents (insert link).

Some parents would like to see more before and after school clubs.

  • We aim to provide clubs on at least four days per week after school next term and hope to also continue our morning clubs (we currently offer four).
  • Clubs are sometimes restricted to age groups for safety and suitability reasons.
  • We know many of you miss Art Club. We will endeavour to provide a non-sports-based club next year in addition to the current choir club.
  • The school does not have the expectation for teachers to run clubs. They are busy with classroom tasks, meetings and in some cases delivering additional tutoring after school. We are very open to parents volunteering to run a club if they have a skill or could spare the time.
  • The school is limited for space and if we provided extended day care we would not be able to run our clubs.
  • We will continue to look into more club providers and extra-curricular opportunities.

The majority of parents agree that the school is inclusive and their child’s specific needs are met. They were a very small number of concerns.

  • The school considers inclusion and SEND a strength and this was noted in our most recent Ofsted report ‘The constant review of pupils' SEND provision and support is a strength of the school'. Ofsted Nov 2021
  • While we regard communication between school and parents of child with specific needs to be strong we will aim to further improve this.

The majority of parents feel that their child receives appropriate home learning but a small minority disagree.

  • Homework is non-statutory in primary school. We do however, provide homework to support the children’s learning. We encourage reading and working on basic skills. This helps support the learning in school.
  • The school encourages homework to be completed and we also aim to provide homework that can be done independently.
  • We will increase advice for parents as how to support children’s learning at home.
  • We will revise any homework tasks if we feel they are non-effective in supporting progress and attainment.
