Basketball Tournament

Our Year 6 Basketball Team travelled with Mrs Jordan to Southampton Solent University to compete in the County Basketball Championship Finals.

Earlier in the year, Cliddesden came runners up to St Mary’s Old Basing in the Basingstoke schools’ competition and qualified for the finals as highest placed small school in the county. At the finals we were one of sixteen schools who qualified for the top level from across the county including Southampton schools.

The team demonstrated incredible grit and determination during the county finals, working incredibly well as a team supporting each other and showing good sportsmanship towards the other teams. The team worked hard mastering defending, footwork and shooting throughout 9 fast paced games. They played seven teams in a row. Winning 4 and losing 3. After a short refuel at lunch we had the great news that Cliddesden had made it into the quarter finals. The team played a further two matches and gained 6th place overall out of 16 teams across the county. Mrs Jordan said “It was a pleasure spending the day with such a kind and hardworking group of children.”

The players gained stickers for a variety of values such as determination, passion and teamwork. Being the 6th best primary school basketball team in the whole of Hampshire is an outstanding achievement for a school our size! Well done Bailey, Sofia, Tyler, Sonny, Annabella and Hugo and of course Debs who introduced basketball to our school.
