World Book Day
What an incredible day we hall had celebrating World Book Day.
Willow Class – Mrs Nicholson
Willow Class came to school as characters from Zog by Julia Donaldson.
We started the day with a drama workshop from PERFORM. This was great fun and we went deep sea diving, spotting sea creatures and finding a pearl thief too.
Then we looked at lots of books by Julia Donaldson and noticed that the illustrator was the same, and the stories all rhymed. We enjoyed drawing ourselves as book characters and sharing them with each other.
The children then started to prepare for a tournament in the afternoon. We made strong shields, and went to sword school. We learnt all about the different jobs in a castle and decided which ones were needed for a tournament. An excellent clip about jousting helped us decide.
After lunch, the children enjoyed sharing their characters in assembly and looking at all our school's book heroes and favourite books.
After assembly, we prepared for the joust. Horses were stabled and fed, drinks prepared by the cooks and gardener for the Royals, and the knights warmed up. Everyone had a go at jousting and marshalling too. It was great fun.
We had a great day and took our book tokens home, looking forward to finding a new book to share with our families.
Beech Class – Mrs Robinson
Beech class had a brilliant time today. We showcased some amazingly creative costumes from a wide range of books.
We enjoyed the shared reading with Oak class and our drama session.
Chestnut Class – Mrs Hussey
Chestnut Class had a great World Book Day, we had joining us, amongst others a Gangster Granny, a wardrobe, a World War 2 solider, a Demi-God and 2 children who had been turned into mice!
We started the day with a National literacy Footy/Booky quiz which we all thoroughly enjoyed and had great fun trying to find the answers. We were also lucky enough to join the World Book Day live lesson which taught us how to design an inviting book corner. We had a fantastic time doing a buddy read with Willow Class and all really enjoyed sharing our books with the younger children.
After an enjoyable whole school assembly, we watched Willow class compete in a jousting tournament from Zog and the Flying Doctors.
Oak Class – Mrs Montgomerie
Oak Class enjoyed taking part in the Great Footy/Booky quiz along with hundreds of other schools across the UK. We wore our cosy clothes and love listening and sharing our stories with younger children. We also were challenged to create a story using emoji’s and as few words as possible.
