Stubbington Residential
Year 4 have just returned from an amazing visit to Stubbington Study Centre! They were there for three days and two nights, and for some, it was their first experience of being away from home overnight. It began on a very rainy day with an enjoyable trip to the beach. The children were tasked with creating a sea sculpture, creating their own rock pool habitats and scouring the beach for fossils. Some children were delighted to find shark teeth from hundreds of thousands of years ago! After dinner the amazing veteran photographer Dennis Bright showed us many close-ups of animals and birds that he had been skilled enough to get pictures of. On the next day, the children found out more about the importance of trees in the ecosystem and developed their teamwork skills - an earthquake had occurred and the children had to work in teams, carrying equipment through an obstacle course to save babies hidden in the ruins. The second day ended with an evening game, searching for pirates who had stolen gold. After supper, it was time for the highlight of the trip: a chance to visit the hide, where everyone was lucky enough to see many wild badgers and foxes! On the final day, the Year 4 children learnt more about mapping skills. They put this into practice by hiding gnomes and drawing maps to help friends find them. The final activity was two complicated team games which helped everyone to develop their communication and problem-solving skills. Everyone had a fantastic time and, although tired, there were many children who wanted to stay a little longer!
